TURKEY DAY

turkey day,
black friday.
technically it's thanksgiving, and that's a big part of it, but america has a way of taking holidays and changing their focus to food and shopping... which i mean, most of the time i'm fine with it, but i also think it's important to remember the reason for the holiday, which in my opinion, is family :-)

this year we did thanksgiving with my mom's side of them family, which consists of 90% children, which still i'm okay with.. especially when they do cute things like the picture below. LOL.
i will never stop laughing at this picture HAHA

when your family is so big that you have to do thanksgiving at a church, you do what you can to make it cute. we tried.

"excuse me please give and my mashed potatoes some peace"

after dinner me and some of my cousins did some fun photoshoots and watched my new favorite movie, forest gump... and i have to add that we've been quoting it all week.

just a cute barn i found.

syd is so cute.

happy thanksgiving to you and yours!
...brb gotta go finish off some more pies.

curveballs

sometimes life takes us down unexpected roads. it twists and turns and sometime you fell like you have absolutely no idea what is happening to you or you life. i like to think that life has a sense of humor, that God has a sense of humor. he likes to keep things interesting. just when you go comfortable, just when you think you've got things figured out. life throws you a curveball.
my year so far has been an enormous swarm of curveballs.
just when i've gotten comfortable with my friends, with my family, with my testimony... the curveballs come raining down, one after another. if you would have asked me a year ago where i though i would be right now, my answer would have been all kinds of different.
but thats okay.
this year has brought so many experiences that i didn't think my little heart would be able to endure, yet here i stand. the experiences i have had have shaped and molded me not the girl i am today. and although it's a completely different girl that i would have ever pictured, some how i find myself turning to that pitcher of life, looking him in the eye, and telling him to keep those curveballs coming.

'TIS THE SEASON

'twas the night before ski season,
and all through the house,
all the creatures were stirring,
(my house doesn't have mice.)
the snow pants were hung in the closet with care,
in hopes that fresh powder at brianhead would be there.
the children were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of sick wipeouts danced in their heads.

- a poem by yours truly

but in all jokes/poetry aside.
I AM SO PUMPED FOR THIS SKI SEASON.
(yes, i ski, not snowboard. laugh for a sec if you will, but good luck catching me on the slopes!)

my fam got season passes and my gma & gpa have a cozy little ski-in/ski-out condo, sooooo if you need me this winter you know where to find me

ON EDGE

hey friends,
if you haven't heard, me and my pal dylan made a little short film.
it is about overcoming addiction and although it is pretty sad, i think it does a pretty good job of showing what addictions do to people.
i am part of a little club in my community called the "washington county youth coalition" and a lot of what we do is educating ourselves and others about the affects of drugs and alcohol on people and their families. as i've learned more about these substances, it breaks my heart to see people turn to them for comfort and relief.
substance abuse ruins lives.

anyway, here's the film :-)

RAINY DAZE

i'm gonna be 500 miles - sleeping at last
coming over - james hersey
heart it races - dr. dog
i would do anything for you - foster the people
running back to you - for the foxes
snaggletooth - vance joy

today it rained,
and that was a good enough excuse for me to listen to all my favorite chill songs as of late on repeat.

now if you'll excuse me, i gotta go back to sipping my cider and procrastinating my homework and other fall stuff like that.

HOW TO SURVIVE A MOSH PIT

we win for biggest group HAHA

the lalalaladieeez (plus dallin, dub and an ever affectionate trey)

sadies was a good time! i went with my good friend bryce bunker and we had a jolly grand time. for the day date, we did a mud run along with the other 90354 people in our group. then later we went up to al's cabin in pine valley for dinner, games, and pictures.

but what you really want to know is, what's up with this post title?

i was considering calling this post "sadies 2k15" or something predictable like that, but as we all experienced, the sadies dance was nothing but a giant inescapable mosh pit with the occasional dance circle. dj lex wasn't very happy about it lol.
so i decided that it is my duty as a small person in a big world to tell you what i learned about
what to do when you are repeatedly and involuntarily absorbed by a massive pit of moshing teenagers.

it's a real problem, especially at sadies.

#1 YOU GOTTA KEEP YOUR HAIR UP OHHHOHHH
you got it all wrong, andy grammar. keep your hair up ladies.
if you don't, your locks might get caught in the pit of mosh and begin to drag you down until you are about to get stampeded until a tall man named seth dotson saves your life.
true story.

#2 ELBOWS OUT
defend yo self.
if you don't make yourself a little (very little) bubble of space with your elbows, you will literally get lifted off the ground by the shoulders of the mashing kids around you.
like, the people around you will still be jumping, but it's so tightly packed that you are just chillin in the air shoulder to shoulder with jumping people. it's weird.

#3 SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR JEWLRY
it won't make it out.
you might not even make it out.
personally, most of my hair didn't even make it out.
HAHA at the end of one song, someone found someone's hair extensions that had been ripped out.
if you have anything remotely unattached, kiss it goodbye.

#4 HAVE A BIG TALL FRIEND NEXT TO YOU AT ALL TIMES
so you don't collapse into the bodies... kinda like a life line or somethin. life insurance, more like it.
also, if you don't want to lose track of your friends, hold onto each other like your life depends on it. cause it actually kinda does.

#5 CRAWL UNDER THE STAGE
it's the only place where the mosh pit can't absorb you.
here you can take a nap while the bass vibrates you, and have a closeup look at everyone's feet.
just be sure to get out before the fog machines come on and suffocate you. WHOOPS.

that my friends, is your guide to surviving a mosh pit.

happy moshing,
kp

P.S. please please plllleaaase, do not start a mosh pit to stitches by shawn mendez.
life just doesn't work that way.
(the song has to at least have a couple solid bass drops)

FOMO

just a nice picture of some candles? fun fact: my grandpa actually made that pretty blue one... i miss that man.

one time i was on instagram or twitter or doing something unproductive like that when i was supposed to be doing math homework or practicing or something productive like that when my mom randomly came in and told me to

"get rid of your FOMO"

and then my eyebrows went weird directions (like yours just did) and i gave her a super weird
who-do-you-think-you-are-you look to which she enthusiastically replied

"it means get rid of your Fear Of Missing Out"

to which i probably returned with a well practiced eye roll and a sassy line like
"where'd you hear that one?"
because let's be real, that is the probably the gayest acronym i've ever heard (and it means other things too LOL)… but you've got to hand it to her.
as teenagers, we all kinda get a lil angsty about missing out. you scroll through your vsco and see some little hangout that you weren't invited to and BAM. butthurt.
you're scrolling through the tweets and everyone is talking about some hilarious twitter fight that already got deleted and you can't help but wish you would have got on a few minutes before…
or maybe you've missed out on some cool opportunities just because you didn't see the text fast enough.
so then pretty soon checking your phone becomes second nature… and if your phone isn't on you you might have a baby panic attack or bust a cap or something.

so my friends, FOMO is a contagious disease that affects teenagers worldwide.
please donate to save a life <3

but on the reals, even if we miss out on some of the good times, there's always more good times.
so let's have a good time.

monday's mantra

“Don’t you give up.

 Don’t you quit.

 You keep walking.

 You keep trying.

There is help and happiness ahead. It will be alright in the end.

Trust God and believe in good things to come.”

–Jeffrey R. Holland

i've read this waaay too many times today. i sure hope elder holland knows what he's talking about because i think think is going to be the game plan for the rest of my life. there are indeed "good things to come"... like my bed, & the weekend, & christmas break, & even summer. they say high school is only 3 short years and that the friends you did, or didn't, have won't matter after high school.
gosh, i am holding onto that.
